Fish curry with garlic is an authentic dish and is prepared at most of the coastal areas as fish is indispensable in these coastal regions. The origins of the modern dish can be traced back to Tamil Nadu and Kerala.The dish started as an attempt to extend Indian cuisine to include a wider clientele, notably Chinese customers, who considered curry prepared with fish heads a specialty.
Fish curries are also eaten in Sri Lanka, Thailand and other countries. The dish is also mass-produced, processed and packaged in cans and flexible pouches for consumer purchase.
All you need for this healthy 'Garlic Fish Curry' ..
Fish - 1kg(Any variety)
For Marinating the Fish
Turmeric Powder -1tsp
Salt - To taste
Ginger Garlic paste - 1tbsp
For Grinding
Large Onion - 1
Tomato - 1
Garlic - 5pods
Red Chilly - 2
Cumin Powder/Seeds - 1tsp
Coconut - 1tbsp
Steps..
Marinate Fish with the items given under - 'For Marinating the Fish' section and leave it for 10-15mins.
Grind all the ingredients given under - 'For Grinding' section into a thick paste.
In a thick bottomed pan, add some oil and allow the marinated fish to fry for sometime. Please note, this is not deep fry. This is similar to cooking fish dosa pan.
Remove from pan, when the fish is half cooked.
After removing fish, In the same oil, add the grounded mixture and allow it to boil until the raw smell goes away.
Once the raw smell from the grounded mixture goes away, add the fried fish. with some water, allow it to cook for 6-7mins in low flame. Remove from flame and garnish with cilantro.
