Kozhakkattai (Tamil: கொழுக்கட்டை, Malayalam: കൊഴുക്കട്ട, Marathi: मॊदक, Oriya: ମଣ୍ଡା manda) is a popular Indian sweet dumpling made from rice flour, grated coconut and jaggery, and is similar to Modak made in other parts of India. This dish is popularly associated with Lord Ganesh and Ganesh Chaturti celebrations in South India. The dish is also a part of the traditional Nasrani cuisine of the Syrian Christians of the state of Kerala.


All you need for the tasty Pal Kozhakkattai ..

Rice - 1 cup
Jaggery - To taste
Milk - 1 cup
Badam - 3
Cardamom - 2




Steps..




Soak rice for an hour and grind well in mixi. Batter should be watery. Pour the batter in a thick bottomed pan in low flame. Stir well until it becomes like a dough as in the picture.







Using the dough, make small round balls and keep it aside.








Boil milk in a thick bottomed pan. Add jaggery to taste.









Then add the rice flour balls in to the boiling milk.








Grind badam and cardamom with little water and add to the boiling milk. Stir the milk continuously, so that you can avoid milk getting burnt in the bottom.







Once the rice flour balls are cooked well, it will float in the surface of the milk. Off the flame.








Allow the pal kolukattai to cool and serve. Enjoy!!
